INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "LUMIÈRES ON THE MEDITERRANEAN 2020" (17 and 18 June 2020) - PRELIMINARY INDICATIONS

Dear friends and colleagues,
hereby we indicate some phases that allow a preliminary organization of the conference.
The terms of the debate will be developed according to three areas of reflection, following a method that includes:
·      memory (historical disciplines);
·       reason (philosophy);
·       imagination (law, economics, politics and literature).
With this division we intend to deepen each concept in a specialized way in order to develop them into a common and interdisciplinary perspective. In this common project, which aims the meeting of the two shores of the Mediterranean, the role of translation will be central. The fundamental assumption is to allow cultures to confront each other and to avoid the persistence of a monochromatic use of language. Among the various topics at stake, will be central the concepts of
·      freedom
·      universalism
·      citizenship
·      the relationship between science and humanism
Assuming the Mediterranean and its history as a paradigm of human coexistence, we will also interrogate about the vision of this experience from the other West.
